There are many factors that contribute to these distinctions, and one has been the reliable foundation of a well-operating school board.

The district has been fortunate to have members who are experienced not just in serving as directorates, but also in working respectfully together to serve the particulars of a school governing board that balances the goals of parents, educators, and students in the best interest of the community. They have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, as well as the full reach and established boundaries of their duties.

Here are just a few examples of the important measures the board has taken in recent years to ensure ongoing excellence in the district:

• Called for the implementation of an annual Climate Survey to assess teacher satisfaction and priorities and to identify areas of improvement for each school site administrator. The comprehensive report, whose goal is to reduce teacher attrition, is reviewed at a board meeting.

• Committed the funding necessary to build a system-wide orchestra program.

• Added programs such as AP Capstone and Arizona Seal of Biliteracy to augment Senior accomplishments recognized by universities.

• Passed a resolution in support of Red for Ed (2018).

All three candidates have had or currently have students in district schools. They live in the community and have consistently volunteered their time and energy to benefit the greater good. They are determined to continue the tradition of academic excellence, students’ well-being and care, and keep Catalina Foothills as the nationally recognized district it is.

Both Amy K and Amy B maintained poise, thoughtful openness to differing situations and a vastly wide-range of opinions from the community, and went about their governance with wisdom, faithfully and patiently putting in long hours to guide the best path for the district.

I have had the privilege of volunteering many hours with Gina who truly went above and beyond her responsibilities as FFO President. She easily became the go-to resource for all things involving by-laws, events, planning, budgeting, and all the many layers of details it takes to make sure the staff and students were well-supported under her term.
